Brightening Your Home with a Sunroom

Brightening Your Home with a Sunroom

In most houses, the sunroom-”a room that faces a garden, a lawn, or the outfield-”is built adjacent to the patio or part of the patio itself. The term -œsunroom- is used to identify the room’s purpose of providing a naturally lighted area with sufficient visual access to the outside. Generally, sunrooms are characterized by many large windows, with some even consisting of skylights. Although considered a closed structure, a sunroom provides an outdoor atmosphere because of the glass pane walls that make it look nearly transparent. Designs vary according to the amount of sunlight the homeowner wants to brighten up the room with. Skylights are optional but to prop up the purpose of naturally lighting up the room, they can be placed either partially or fully. The window forms on the sunroom’s wall vary depending on what fits the architectural design. In temperate regions of the country, homeowners provide a series of casement or sliding windows to allow the breeze to enter. However, in cold places like Maryland, most sunrooms have picture windows with multiple panes to prevent cold air from entering. A picture window is fixed and does not have opening and closing mechanisms. The sunrooms Maryland builders construct have several benefits, aside from providing natural lighting even to the adjacent rooms in the house. Most of them are designed with pompous living room for welcoming visitors; some provide best places for household members who love reading books. Some homeowners who love to freshen up their house even put a container garden in their sunrooms, aside the from the typical living room furniture. However, this does not challenge the design of the patio right outside the sunroom. Builders choose the right framing for windows and skylights used in sunrooms Maryland houses have. Since 60 to 80 percent of the room is composed of windows, they need to provide proper insulation as they act as walls shielding the interior of the house. Depending on the type of windows used, there are different framing materials that can match them. For slightly antique designs, wooden frames match with large clear glass panes. However, for improved properties, wood can be replaced with vinyl, which may take its form to maintain the antique look. The vinyl replacement windows Maryland households prefer come in different designs and colors, imitating other materials but keeping their durability. Great Impact of Sealing of Windows and Doors to Effectively Control Rat

Great Impact of Sealing of Windows and Doors to Effectively Control Rat

As one of the larger home pests, rats can be frightening to many homeowners. Larger than mice, rats have a keen sense of smell, touch and taste, but their vision is poor. They are active throughout the year, but are mostly nocturnal. Common types of rats are Norway and roof rats. They are both clever creatures and can enter your home by jumping, climbing or even gnawing their way in. Because rats memorize their surroundings, they are timid to get close to a new object in a familiar area. This can make rat control difficult because rats are usually very hesitant to step into a trap that has been set out for them. Don’t get caught not knowing how to get rid of rats! Rats have evolved to become dependent on humans for food and shelter and are commonly found in urban areas. They are known to make their way into buildings in search of food and if successful, can cause huge food losses, both in what they eat and the additional food that they contaminate. Due to inbreeding, rats have become more disease prone over time. Unfortunately, it is possible for them to spread disease to humans, so contact with rats should be avoided at all times. For this reason, knowing how to get rid of rats is incredibly important. Rats are highly destructive; they will chew on and eat virtually anything inside the home. If a homeowner spots a rat, he or she should address the problem immediately before an infestation gets out of control. Rat control is best achieved by preventing rats from settling in your home in the first place. This can include not leaving food out; instead store anything edible in a sealed container. Making sure that your windows and doors and properly sealed can also go a long way in preventing rats from finding their way inside. Rats are usually known to travel in groups and reproduce frequently. Therefore, if you spot a rat in your home, there are probably several more that live there. If you are suspicious that you have a rat infestation, call a professional exterminator. Why Rat Control Is Important Rats are one of the most common household pests. Without proper prevention and protection, rat populations can increase rapidly. Rats typically form nests in old newspaper, cardboard, and even insulation material in warm places like attics. Rats are capable of destroying food, expensive furniture, books, and clothing through gnawing, urine, and feces. Rats breed prolifically and rapidly, so even a small number of rats should not be overlooked (before it’s too late)! Rat control can be a serious hassle. A pest management company can offer a solution to rat infestations. With professional exterminators, homeowners get the treatment that they need in order to receive the rat solution they seek. The best part of hiring an experienced exterminator is that they have the knowledge and expertise to do it right from the beginning. These Is What Rigid Foam Insulation Is Made Of

These Is What Rigid Foam Insulation Is Made Of

The foam insulations are good substitute to the insulators like fiberglass or cellulose. The foam insulators are used where the high R-values are desired. Even though the cost is greater than that of the batt insulations or fiberglass rigid foam insulations are preferred for high performance. The R-value (per inch of thickness) of foam insulations range from R-4 to R-8. This range of R-values is 2-3 times greater than the r-values of other materials. The foam insulations are made up of three materials which includes the extruded expanded polystyrene (XEPS), molded expanded polystyrene (MEPS), and polyurethane, polyisocyanurate or related chemical mixtures. Some of these are installed as liquids and other are panels made in the factory. The molded expanded polystyrene is basically a closed cell material and can be molded into various items. This material is called as ‘beadboard ‘and its R-value is 4 per inch of thickness. A beadboard is made using expanded polystyrene beads which contain pentane. This is then mixed with some blowing agent and then poured into a container. Heating expand the beads many times. The beads are then injected into a mold and shaped as required. The closed cell insulation forms the extruded expanded polystyrene and is similar to the MEPS. The polystyrene capsules are liquidated and a blowing agent is injected to form gas bubbles. Then the foaming liquid is forced into a shaping die. After cooling the panel is cut according to the requirement. Both the MEPS and XEPS are useful for structural insulating panels and insulating the concrete forms. Polyurethane and polyisocyanurate are again closed cell foams that are filled with a low conductivity gas in the cell. The R-values of these materials are between R-7 to R-8 due which it gives high thermal resistance. Since the air is the most effective all insulators use the air to minimize the insulators conductivity to prevent the heat loss. The sheer volume of compressed air in rigid foam insulation gives it better thermal performance. The penetration of moisture causes permanent loss in the R-value which is one of the causes of uselessness of the insulation over the time. But the rigid foam insulation material is ‘hydrophobic’ and hence cannot be penetrated by the moisture. The rigid foams work in a way to slow down the flow of the heat through building. It also seals the building by preventing from the air leakages and outside drafts. This insulation helps you to save money by the reducing the loads on the energy used for heating and cooling the building. This insulation provides you a comfortable living and working place. There are certain problems that need to be taken care of if you install the rigid foam insulation. The foam boards are prone to the potential insects tunneling. This reduces the R-value of the boards. It is also hazardous to the potential integrity of the total insulation. For this reason make sure that the boards are treated with insecticides like a borate compound. For a below grade wall it is better to install the boards on interiors instead of installing on the exteriors. Though the insulation does not readily catch fire a fire barrier is advisable.
